What is a Book?

Think about a place where you can go to hide.
Think about something that protects you from the monsters in your closet.
Think about a place where you can go to stay warm.
Think about something that just keeps you company.

A book is a blanket. A book is always there for you on lonely cold nights to keep you company, a book can give you a new world to hide and get lost in, and a book can give you warmth from the millions of fibers between your fingers.

I’m not going to lie. I own an electric blanket, and it’s pretty awesome. I love how it can warm me up on cold nights and I don’t have to cover myself with fewer than 50 billion other regular blankets. I can just stay under one warm blanket and just stay content.
Just like e-books, with e-books you don’t have to hold a seven pound book over your head all you need is just one tablet and you can escape into this world where you can be a 107 year old vampire who falls in love with this 17 year old girl who doesn’t know how to smile, you guys could be going on this wonderful date under the full moon and she’s just about to lean in to wipe the apple sauce off your face... BAM your e-book runs out of batteries and your cat chewed up your charger. Sucks right?

You know what, I been there too. My electric blanket fails on me all the time too, but I still have my regular blanket, I still can cuddle with the 50 billion other blankets I have and stay warm.
With just normal hard or paperback books it can stay with you forever, it’ll never die on you when you need it the most. Those books can keep you company anywhere; it can give you a place to go to when you need somewhere to go. Whenever and wherever you go and it won’t pop up with the low battery notification and die on you.

Why do I read?

Why do I read? I read because I want to.
I read because I want to know what’s happening around me when I can’t get out.
I read because I want to know what we are learning about in class.
I read because I want to escape from reality.
I can go on and on about why I read, but in all honesty I’m like everybody else. I read because I like to read. I like to escape into a new world and I like to learn all about it. Reading gives me a break from my working life. While I read I don’t have to worry if my customer’s food is out on time or if it’s too spicy for them or if they want to send back their food because their sauce is touching their chicken. NO. While I read I don’t have to worry about anything like that, I can just sit back, relax and be happy with myself.
